Pressure gradient force - The pressure gradient force is the force that is usually responsible for accelerating a parcel of air from a high atmospheric pressure region to a low pressure region, resulting in wind.

Pressure gradient - Pressure Gradient is the change in pressure over a distance. For example, in meteorology the Horizontal Pressure Gradient is the change in atmospheric pressure over a certain distance.

Adverse pressure gradient - An adverse pressure gradient occurs when the static pressure increases in the direction of the flow. This is important for boundary layers, since increasing the fluid pressure is akin to increasing the potential energy of the fluid, leading to a reduced kinetic energy and a deceleration of the fluid.

Geostrophic balance - Geostrophic balance is the balance of the pressure gradient force and coriolis force acting on a parcel of air, causing the wind to blow parrallel to isobars of pressure in the earth's atmosphere. When wind does this, it is referred to as geostrophic wind.
